An office layout can impact employee behavior by either appealing to our natural tendencies and preferences regarding the noise, lighting, shape and position of furniture as well as the ease of using and tools in the space.

When comparing the two offices above, both seem modern, spacious and functional; however, when comparing the following elements, the right office scores better on positive impact it has on employee behaviour:
- Indoor plants – bringing nature closer to the employees. A view of nature is always beneficial and should be leveraged.
- Interesting lighting is a great way to distinguish various areas by application and can enhance either focus (bright light) or creativity (low light).
- Acoustic elements – reducing echo/reverberation in the office enhances focus and a feeling of comfort
- Natural materials – wood, stone and natural textures relax the mind
