Focus on Office Trends in 2016

With the start of the new year we have been researching and looking through some trend forecast specifically related to office space and design, below we share some of the most interesting articles with you.

Many commentators have predicted the ‘death of the office’. It is no closer to becoming true than the ‘paperless office’ was when Business Week predicted it in 1975. – Paul Carder

Stay ahead of the game:

Colour Internationally: There are nine palettes in PANTONE’s color forecast for the home and interiors market. Rather than purchase the book of trends, check out this blog for details and example photos.

Colour Nationally: Plascon and Dulux have each published the 2016 colour forecast, that we have attempted to summarized below:

  1. Pastels
    Plascon calls it “Element” in their 2016 colour trend forecast (inspired by earth and raw materials)
    Dulux calls it Bio fragility – “inspired by natural and living matter – flesh tones, lichen, moss and stone influence the subtle hues…”
  2. Old meets contemporary:
    Plascon calls it “Heirloom” in their 2016 colour trend forecast (inspired by the past, reworking classics with contemporary pieces)
    Dulux calls it Future Past – “Future Past takes its cues from steampunk merging with modern design – creating a new version of the old.”
  3. New Worlds
    Plascon calls it “Discovery” in their 2016 colour trend forecast – inspired by the Universe.
    Dulux calls it Infinite Worlds– “Dark colours form the majority of the Infinite Worlds palette, juxtaposed with flashes of brilliant reds, pinks and coral and space age metallics.”
  4. Bold & Bright
    Plascon calls it “Connect” in their 2016 colour trend forecast – basic shapes and bright colours.
    Dulux calls it Retromix– “…new retro movement where experimentation in colour combinations leads to acid brights clashing with faded muddied colours”

Kontor, the new network for workplace design, shared six office trends to watch in 2016. Their list includes personal space, residential feel and kaleidoscope conference rooms. See their full list of office design trends and example projects.
